A drug discovery biotech in central London are looking for a Project Manager/ Alliance Manager to join their team in a newly created role on a permanent basis. In this role, you'll act as the glue between the CRO, finance & drug discovery teams so my client is looking for someone who can hit the ground running straight away - so having prior Project Management/ Alliance Management experience (ideally 5+ years) will be essential for this position. Therefore, as it's a new position, you'll have the chance to be truly impactful from day one within a small team environment and take ownership of your role.

With 40 people currently in the business, our client is ideally looking for an individual who has experience working in a dynamic range of backgrounds, such as start-up biotech/ pharma, as this will be a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. You'll be reporting directly into the directly into the Chief Scientific Officer so having prior experience of working closely with board level members will be great exposure to have. As this is a small team and a key hire for the company, they're looking for someone to come into their central London offices at least 3 to 4 days per week as collaboration and face-to-face meetings will be essential for this type of hire.



Role/ Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Project Leaders and subject matter experts to build and track detailed project plans that include budgets, delivery timelines and resource requirements.
  • Help set overall project management and alliance strategy.
  • Act as main point of contact for CRO partners from a project management perspective.
  • Help drive agile execution and maximise learnings across projects, identifying potential time and cost savings.
  • Maintain an oversight of the activities being carried out at different CROs to ensure coordinated efforts and effective inter-dependency management.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external contacts at all levels within the portfolio.
  • Understand and manage contractual agreements and resolve potential issues.
  • Work alongside the Finance Team to ensure project spend is aligned with budgets.
  • Organise meetings with partners, providing agendas, minutes and distributing relevant material prior to and post-meetings.
  • Provide project and portfolio level summaries/reports and organise documentation to ensure efficient project delivery.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience within a project management position, providing the knowhow to support successful project delivery, achieve milestones, and maintain budgets (ideally 5+ years).
  • Experience in maintaining and building new alliances with CROs.
  • Expertise in the use of project planning software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with a clear and concise presentation style and outstanding attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the elements of drug discovery and development with experience working within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry is advantageous.
  • A champion for project management skills within the business and a willingness to mentor and develop project team members.
  • A sense of urgency.
  • BSc/MSc (possibly PhD) in a scientific or related discipline.
