Proclinical is seeking a dedicated and innovative individual to lead the research and vector engineering organisation at a leading gene therapy company. This role involves driving the early project pipeline and developing the next generation of gene therapy technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all facets of the research team's workflow, operations, and resource needs.
  • Track the department's progress against established budgets, resource plans, and timelines.
  • Ensure data accuracy and work with all Discovery Research Scientists to maintain a high-quality pipeline addressing critical unmet medical needs for patients.
  • Provide scientific and strategic direction for a seasoned team of scientists, with an emphasis on neuroscience.
  • Guide the team, offer personal development opportunities, and demonstrate exemplary scientific leadership for the company's AAV research initiatives.
  • Drive ongoing innovation in payload/cargo design and foster inter-departmental collaborations.
  • Play an active role in selecting, prioritizing, and accelerating the development of projects and technologies.
  • Lead the design, in vitro characterization, and in vivo testing of next-generation AAV capsids.
  • Contribute to the discovery, protection, and expansion of our intellectual property portfolio.
  • Coordinate with Legal, Finance, CMC, Business Development, and other internal teams to ensure alignment with company strategy and resources.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • PhD or MD/PhD preferably within a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience in the field of therapeutic drug development, experience in neuroscience and virology is an advantage.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in developing and mentoring a team of scientists.
  • Ability to be full time in Amsterdam.
  • Experience in molecular biology, gene therapy, virology, biochemistry from within both the academic and pharmaceutical setting.
  • Enthusiastic, solution driven, can-do attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills acknowledging the multicultural working environment.
